Epic apologizes for “Boob Physics” in Fortnite, Vows to remove them

Season 6 for Fortnite is underway and developer Epic has shared details about all the new shiny loot players can expect to work towards. One unexpected new inclusion with season 6 however, is “boob physics”. This quickly became popular on Twitter and only one day later, Epic has chimed in, by stating that this in fact not a feature but a bug, and will be fixed very soon in an update.

Popular Twitch streamers FaZe Agony released a tweet, after noticing that during a certain emote, the female player character’s breasts started jiggling. Breast physics are nothing new in video games, some even made a name for themselves in perfecting the effect, but it looks like Epic is not keen on becoming the center of controversy. Understandably so, as Fortnite is a mega hit and continuously reaches a wide audience, ranging from hardcore player to casuals and yes, even children.

It’s likely Epic’s ambition to cater towards as large an audience as possible that the company quickly commented on the breast physics found in season 6. After all, concerned parents would likely forbid their young children playing Fortnite if sexualization became a widespread issue. Discussions about double-standards with regard to sexualization versus violence have been a hot topic in video games for a long time, and today’s new incident is fueling arguments how no one bats an eye when children play a game where the goal is to eliminate every single stranger but once a glimpse of sexualization emerges, a controversy is born.

There is merit to that discussion but it will likely not be solved anytime soon and especially not in Fortnite’s case. In a statement to IGN, an Epic spokesperson told that “This is unintended, embarrassing, and it was careless for us to let this ship. We are working now to fix this as soon as possible.” Cynics might question how such a thing can be a result of a bug but when keeping in mind that the “boob physics” only emerge in a single emote, Epic’s statement makes a lot sense.
