Epic Games announces Infinity Blade: Dungeons for iPad 3

Epic Games, the studio behind Gears of War, announced Infinity Blade: Dungeons, a new dungeon-crawling adventure.

Epic president Mike Capps revealed the new game, which will be available exclusively for iOS devices, at the iPad 3 reveal today during Apple's San Francisco press conference this afternoon.

Infinity Blade: Dungeons is set several thousand years prior to the events of the previous Infinity Blade series.  In the game you will collect and craft minerals to create the legendary Infinity Blade.

"The Unreal engine is unleashing the power of the new iPad," Capps said referring to the new iPad 3.  "This new device has more memory and higher screen resolution than an Xbox 360 or PS3."

“With Infinity Blade: Dungeons we continue the tradition of melding exciting gameplay with beautiful, rich worlds powered by Unreal Engine technology; and Apple’s new iPad allows us to push the boundaries even further.” Capps said.

“Just like Apple has raised the bar for mobile computing, the Infinity Blade franchise has continually re-defined expectations for mobile gaming,” he promised.

Of course, this is only with the brand new iPad 3.  While the game will be available exclusively for all iOS devices, Capps said Dungeons is "only going to look like this and play like this on the new iPad".

Infinity Blade: Dungeons will drop the series' standard over-the-shoulder viewpoint.  Epic proudly spoke of the game's "dynamic camera system" that takes you in and out of battle, weapon crafting, and exploration.

No release date was announced, just that it is "coming soon".
