Uncharted is one of the most cinematic game franchises ever made with big, bombastic action set-pieces, high-quality story and characters, and globetrotting adventures akin to Indiana Jones. It was no surprise Sony tried to get a film based off the game off the ground nearly a decade ago but they’ve been unsuccessful in their attempts.
Despite gaining great talent on board throughout the years with various actors, writers, and directors, the Uncharted movie seems like it’s never going to happen but… that doesn’t mean we can’t have a small taste of what an Uncharted movie would be like.
Today, filmmaker Allan Ungar released a 15-minute fan film for Uncharted starring the dream Nathan Drake actor, Nathan Fillion. Fillion has been long wanted for the role by fans due to his incredible charm and visual similarities to the PlayStation icon but Sony has always gone for bigger actors when casting the character. That hasn’t stopped Fillion from gunning for the role and he finally got the chance to play the character.
“This is something I’ve wanted to do, but more importantly, something I’ve wanted to see for a long time. If you’ve ever pinned a towel around your neck for a cape, or donned a fedora and nearly put your eye out with a homemade whip, this is for you,” said Fillion on his Instagram. “Thank you, @allanungar, for letting us all scratch this itch. Thank you, @naughty_dog_inc, for creating such a wonderful archetype. Thank you fans, for your excellent taste. You know who you are. Enjoy.”
The fan film sees Nathan Drake infiltrating a mansion to obtain more details regarding a highly sought after treasure. Using his wit, fighting skills, and seemingly endless luck, he uncovers a great revelation that sets him off on a journey to the Philippines with Sully (played by Stephen Lang from Avatar and Don’t Breathe) and Elena (Mircea Monroe).
The film captures everything about Uncharted from the light-hearted tone, the fast-paced and epic action, and the great story about uncovering a valuable treasure. This is everything an Uncharted movie should be and if we’re really lucky, maybe Sony will see this and bring on some of the talent behind this fan film to get the official Uncharted movie on the big screen.

All mainline entries in the Uncharted series are available now on the PlayStation 4 through the Nathan Drake Collection and Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.
