Former Silicon Knights developers are launching a crowdfunding campaign for a new Eternal Darkness game.
Shadow of the Eternals is a spiritual successor to the original GameCube survival-horror game, where a girl named Alexandra Roivas investigates the death of her grandfather in his mansion. By reading a secret tome, she experiences scenes from other people's lives, and evil forces start to manifest in the house itself.
IGN posted a teaser today of the upcoming game. The new studio, Precursor Games, will seek $1,500,000 (with room for stretch goals) through a crowdfunding campaign launching Monday, May 6. Eternal Darkness director and writer Dennis Dyack is involved with the project.
The game will release in 12 episodes on Wii U and PC initially, according to IGN.
"Our primary goal for Shadow of the Eternals is to raise 1.5M dollars," said Precursor Games. "Any money raised beyond this will contribute to stretch goals that go beyond the first episode, including future episodes, additional characters, additional platforms and in-game perks. The more money that we raise, the more we can deliver, which is a win for everyone."
The game follows Detective Paul Becker, who's investigating one of the most violent gang massacres in Louisiana state history. Only two survivors remain, and his interrogation reveals the existence of the "Eternals."
Shadows of the Eternals will span "2,500 years of history throughout Egypt, England, Hungary, and the United States."
Silicon Knights previously pitched Eternal Darkness 2 "endlessly" to Activision, causing them to split resources between it and the failed X-Men: Destiny.
