Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture gets a launch trailer

“We can solve this. We can find a way.”

Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture is now within arm’s length of its August 11 release date. To celebrate, developer The Chinese Room has released an official launch trailer.

Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture looks to be something of a romanticized adventure game, a collection of experiences in many ways similar to TCR’s Dear Esther. In a recent dev diary, TCR called it “a game about how people come together; it’s a game about change and how communities respond to profound change in their midst.”

This broad concept is carried by a narrative centered on astrophysicist Dr. Katherine Collins and her husband Dr. Stephen Appleton. Their roles in the plot remain unclear, though a bit of dialogue from the new trailer is somewhat telling:

“We’re responsible for all this. You and me,” Appleton said.

“It’s not just you and me anymore, is it?” Collins replied.

TCR brought out an all-star cast for Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture, Creative Director Dan Pinchbeck explained on the PlayStation Blog. The headlining act is Collins herself, who will be voiced by Merle Dandridge, best known for her role as Alyx Vance in Half Life 2 and Marlene in The Last of Us.
