Ever since Shenmue 3's Kickstarter campaign was revealed during Sony's E3 conference this year, interest in a certain classic has been raised — and no, I am not only talking about the original Shenmue games. The Sega Dreamcast has been flying off of store shelves.
“We sold 20 Dreamcasts in the last week alone,” said Alex Bowness of Canterbury’s Level Up Games. “All of sudden, people are asking where they can play the original two Shenmue games. The announcement of Shenmue III really piqued everyone’s interest.”
That's not all thought, the sales for the original two Shenmue games have gone up, as well as classic copies of Final Fantasy 7.
A jump in sales for classic games and console is a testament to the excitement over upcoming games. Excitement over Shenmue 3 couldn't really be denied to begin with, the Kickstarter campaign was fully funded in under 24 hours and ended with over 69,000 backers pledging over $6 million to the game's development. A number of stretchgoals were hit for the game, bringing an expanded worlds and battle system.
