Four months after the release of Driveclub, Sony and developer Evolution Studios are still working to get the free PlayStation Plus version out. Originally expected to release alongside the full game's launch in October, the free version of the game was delayed due to server issues. After numerous updates on the status of the PS Plus version, Shuhei Yoshida, President of World Wide Studios, gave final word that its release would be postponed "until further notice." Since then, all has been quiet on the PS Plus front… until today.
In a post on Facebook today, Evolution Studios shed light on the new features and add-ons for Driveclub's February update, coming next week. They also posted a general overview of features still in development "coming soon." In doing so, they touched upon "server upgrades" and improving stability and performance for all current players. It wasn't confirmed, but it was at least mentioned that server upgrades would "enable the release of the PS+ Edition" and Driveclub companion app.
Again, it's not any sort of confirmation date. We don't even know if the server upgrades coming soon will improve the servers enough for Sony to release the PS Plus version, but at least there's some hope now. It's better than being kept in the dark, right?
