Evolve’s day-one DLC adds up to a lot more than you’d think

Your wallet will shudder in fear

Evolve launched yesterday with its fair share day-one DLC. The concept of launch-day content isn't new, but it has been raising a ruckus in the gaming community. So much so that the game's developer and publisher both stepped out to comment on it.

The co-founder of Turtle Rock, Phil Robb clarified that while the alternate skins might be available at launch, none of the other DLC would be done. Evolve's publisher, Take-Two Interactive, had Strauss Zelnick (Take-Two Chief Exective) speak on the controversy during an earnings call:

"I guess controversy, generally speaking, is a good thing. People can argue about the business model [but] I think we're delivering a fantastic title that's well worth what consumers will pay for it."

Well, launch day has come and passed – a day later, where are we sitting when it comes to DLC? Well, there's quite a bit of DLC out there.

There's the $25 Season Pass that gives you four new Hunters and three monster skins. Each hunter will cost $7.49 individually and the Monster skins can be a range of prices. On top of the Season Pass there are 44 additional skins available on the Xbox Marketplace and eleven (available) on the PlayStation Store (omitting the Season Pass)

If you were to purchase the Season Pass and all the additional skins on the PlayStation Store, you would be spending close to $91.00 (by our calculations).

If you were to purchase all of the Evolve DLC on the Xbox Marketplace, you would be spending $136 – not including the Season Pass (by Gamestop's calculations).

The Hunters (if bought outside of the pass) will cost you an additional $29.96 on top of these prices.

That's some hefty day-one DLC.
