Ex-Bizarre Staff Form Another New Studio

More members of the axed Bizarre crew have created their own studio. Geometry Wars creator Steven Cakebread is being joined by Peter Collier, the senior level designer on Blood Stone, and Ben Ward, former Bizarre community frontman at new studio Hogrocket, an indie game developer based in North-West England. The three-man team is supported by a number of contractors, including two BAFTA award-winning animators.

Hogrocket will focus on making “high quality games” over multiple platforms, but is currently targeting the iPhone, iPad, PC, and Mac. Their first game is already in development, and further details will be revealed in the coming weeks.

“I’m excited about the future and already enjoying the creative freedom and liberations of working in a small, dynamic team,” Peter Collier said about the venture on his blog. The Geometry Wars frontman will more than likely be at the helm of development, and if he forges a game even remotely similar to that of the classic, he and everyone else involved will be in for a hefty pay day.

Hogrocket is the second studio to be established following Bizarre’s demise, as former director Pete Wallace created Lucid Games at the end of February. He said, “We want to get back to the levels of innovation and creativity at Bizarre that made Activision so keen to acquire it,” a sentiment more than likely cosigned by the team at Hogrocket. Virtual fist bump.
