Electronic Arts has announced remasters for the classic real-time strategy franchise Command & Conquer. On a post on Reddit, EA Producer Jim Vessella detailed the publisher’s decision to partner with Petroglyph Games, a development studio consisting of former Westwood developers. The first C&C game to be remastered is the original Command & Conquer: Tiberian Dawn.
Last month, to the surprise of everyone, EA announced on Command & Conquer fan site OpenRA their wish to bring back the classic C&C games to the PC. The news was received very well by the community and thankfully the wait is looking to be much shorter than expected.
Today, EA’s Jim Vessella shared new details about the upcoming remasters and the people working on them. Vessella, who initially teased EA’s interest in reviving the cult strategy franchise, is proud to announce that EA has partnered up with Petroglyp Games to create the C&C remasters. The studio was formed 15 years ago by Westwood workers when EA bought the studio responsible for the C&C series.
This is great news, as who else than the original developers of the Command & Conquer games could understand it best to bring back the old entries into the modern era. Tiberian Dawn is a great first step but Vessella promptly unveiled that the Red Alert games will receive remasters in the future as well. Awesome, as the Red Alert sub-series is a fan-favorite for its more relatable Soviet-USA setting, and of course charmingly campy cutscenes.
In a video, EA’s Vessella together with the President and Producer of Petroglyph Games happily announced the inclusion of Frank Klepacki to the C&C remaster project. Klepacki is a legendary video game composer behind the original scores of Command & Conquer games. Having the award-winning composer on board is only icing on the cake for what is shaping up to be a dream-team of talent working on it.
The exciting part is that we haven’t started development yet. The community is literally getting in on the ground floor of this project and have every opportunity to help influence how we build this remastered experience. Please continue to engage on Reddit and community channels and help us create the best possible remasters of C&C and Red Alert! – Jim Vessella
A fascinating aspect with these Command & Conquer remasters, is that both EA and Petroglyph Games want to collaborate with the fan community to make the remasters the best versions of C&C ever.
