Experience a timeless classic with a friend in Crysis Co-Op

A two-man modding team by the name of Cryop have released a new trailer for Crysis Co-Op. Just as you might have guessed, this mod aims to deliver a hassle-free cooperative mode for the classic Crysis and Warhead add-on campaigns. Besides a sweet new trailer, we now also can look forward to next month when the mod is set to come out. Check out the new trailer below!

The Crysis franchise has been put on ice for quite some years now after the latest entry failed to popularize the series. That was all the way in 2013, even before the current-gen consoles were a thing. With neither publisher Electronic Arts nor developer Crytek seemingly caring about the franchise, it comes as great news that the modding community has once again taken the task of rejuvenating the infamous original Crysis.

Fudsine & RaZoR-FIN are the two talented modders behind Crysis Co-Op and they have been working on the ambitious mod for over three years now. Once you understand the huge ambition of the mod, the development time makes sense. Unlike many other mods, Crysis Co-Op isn’t “merely” introducing improved textures or game models. Instead, it fundamentally changes core game systems by enabling full co-op gameplay for both the original Crysis and Crysis Warhead campaigns. A big feat for what essentially boils down to a passion project.

Complicating matters is that Crysis and its add-on Warhead lost all means of multiplayer gameplay after GameSpy closed its servers in 2014. This made it extremely complicated to get multiplayer matches working with the use of 3rd party tools, resulting in the practical end of Crysis MP. Fudsine & RaZoR-FIN have decided to take the hard route by replacing the GameSpy backbone in both games with Steam integration. This enables easy-to-use matchmaking just like any other regular multiplayer Steam game. Simply outstanding.

But wait, there’s more. Crysis Co-Op also includes a new cooperative game rules feature set with brand-new balancing. Co-Op players will also be able to revive their fallen friends during gameplay. All in all, Crysis Co-Op is poised to breathe new life into one of the most well-known PC shooters of all time when it comes out next month.
