EA is continuing to deliver novel gaming experiences in the Star Wars universe. After last year’s hit Star War Jedi: Fallen Order, it’s time for an even more action-oriented entry with Star Wars: Squadrons. This time, it’s all about space combat in iconic fighter ships from the viewpoints of both the Rebels and the Empire.
Squadrons will feature a singleplayer campaign (set after Return of the Jedi) alongside an intimate 5v5 multiplayer game mode. By supporting crossplay between each platform, the multiplayer portion ought to establish itself as a healthy alternative for fans of dogfighting. There’s little doubt that EA is planning to support Squadrons with steady content updates and unlockables. It’s the age of service games after all. It’ll be interesting to see how the game will compare to the legendary Star Wars: TIE Fighter & Star Wars: X-Wing games in the same genre of the 1990s. But we’re nonetheless delighted to see the game finally show the space combat setting finally more love.
ALL WINGS REPORT IN – Plan skirmishes with your squadron in the briefing room before taking off to the evolving battlefields across the galaxy. Compete in intense 5v5 multiplayer dogfights or unite with your squadron to tip the scales in monumental fleet battles. Together, you’re the galaxy’s finest.
MASTER LEGENDARY STARFIGHTERS – Take control of different classes of starfighters from both the New Republic and Imperial fleets – including the agile A-wing and the devastating TIE bomber. Modify your ship, divert the power between its systems, and destroy your opponents in strategic space dogfights.
Star Wars: Squadrons is slated to come out pretty soon. The game will release on October 2nd for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Furthermore, the game will feature Virtual Reality support right from the launch for PS4’s PSVR and PC VR devices. Electronic Arts will show the worldwide gameplay premiere on June 18 during their own EA Play digital gaming event.
