F.E.A.R.
2 Armored Front DLC Review
By:
Steven Hopper
New DLC offers two new maps and
face customizing features.
The second online map pack for the
F.E.A.R. 2, Armored Front adds two new maps to the game’s prominent online mode,
Armored Front. Armored Front is a team-based mode where two sides fight over 5
different spawnpoints throughout the map, pushing forward with each captured
point. Each player on your team has a specific weapon set, including sniper
rifles, combat shotguns, and so on. However, the real mitigating factor in each
multiplayer match comes from each sides’ use of their EPAs, gigantic mech
vehicles capable of raining down copious amounts of gunfire. In order to use
your EPAs, you must have at least two captured spawnpoints, meaning that things
can spiral down rather quickly if your team starts to lose.
The Armored Front Map Pack delivers
two new maps to fans of the Armored Front mode – Decoy and Conductor. Set in an
abandoned Replica training facility, Decoy has you running through combat
exercise courses while trying to push your way through your opponent’s defenses.
The Conductor map takes place in a trainyard, which boasts a large ground level
area as well as various catwalks and higher surfaces for snipers or players
looking to provide their teammates with cover fire and protection.
Each of the two new maps has a
pretty wide open layout on the ground level and built with mechs in mind,
allowing you to move your EPAs fairly unrestricted through the area while still
offering plenty of harder-to-access areas for those looking to stay out of the
EPA’s way.
Aside from the new maps, the Armored
Front Map Pack also introduces four new custom heads to load-out. The new
character faces are pulled from the game’s single-player campaign, and switching
them in the load-out screen is a snap.
The F.E.A.R. 2 Armored Front DLC
offers two great maps for the what is arguably the game’s most compelling online
mode, meaning that online F.E.A.R. 2 fans will definitely want to take a look at
this map pack. The Armored Front DLC launches today on Xbox LIVE for 560
Microsoft Points.
