Fable developer Lionhead is officially dead

It is official, it is over. The developers of the Fable and the Black & White series is officially dead. Once the developers of one of the biggest games on Xbox is no longer with us.

The process has been going on for a while, but now it is official. Back in March the first news of the shutdown of Lionhead came out, something that the studio was unaware of before Microsoft publicly announced it. Then on April 7 more news about Fable Legends and Lionhead came out, apparently the game and the studio wasn’t as dead as previously thought and Microsoft and Lionhead were talking about saving both Fable Legends and Lionhead. These talks are now over and Lionhead is dead.

Eurogamer got a statement from a Microsoft spokesperson about the Lionhead shutdown and it reads

“We can confirm that after much consideration over the six week consultation period with Lionhead employees, we have reached the decision to close Lionhead Studios. We have nothing but heart-felt thanks for the team at Lionhead for their significant contributions to Xbox and the games industry.”

Today is the last day that Lionhead will be open and on Twitter the developers are remembering their time at Lionhead, it’s a bitter sweet symphony.
