Fallout 4’s gunplay was influenced by Destiny

If there's one thing that Destiny does phenomenally, it's the way they laid out the Vita remote play controls. Luckily, the developer behind the layout left Bungie after working on Destiny's remote play controls, to work at Bethesda on Fallout 4.

It wasn't too long ago that we saw Bethesda highlight Josh Hamrick efforts on Fallout 4's Vita remote play, but that isn't all he's been doing for Fallout 4. Lately, Hamrick has been "focused intently on tuning [Fallout 4's] firearms."

According to the magazine issued by Game Informer, Bethesda openly acknowledges that Fallout 4's gunplay was inspired by Destiny. It wasn't only the way that Destiny felt that influenced Fallout 4's gunplay, it was also because Destiny runs at 30FPS – just like Fallout 4. It was this reason that Bethesda hired Hamrick, they wanted the action and feel that Destiny offered, but with their own Bethesda twist.

"The main difference in the way we develop [and other studios] is that we will develop with as many knobs as possible," said Fallout 4 director Todd Howard. "We're always thinking of scale. We're not a team that is just going to make eight guns and spend forever on one gun. We knew we were going to have thousands, so we needed to develop a gun system that had all of the dials."

Bethesda has not been shy about wanting to make their gunplay "more dynamic." Back in July, Howard detailed the game's improved ‘Vault-Tec Assisted Targeting System’ (VATS) that had intended to quicken the game's action.

Destiny is just another game on Fallout 4's inspirations list, you'll find GTA V on there too.
