Fallout 4’s release caused Pornhub’s traffic to plummet

While Bethesda is celebrating record-setting sales for the newly released Fallout 4, not everyone is happy with the open-world, action-RPG's release. Pornhub, no stranger to Fallout 4 (remember the leaked gameplay video?), made specific note today that traffic plummeted upon the release of the highly anticipated game.

"Like watching a good Pornhub video, anticipation of the release had been building up, and once the moment arrived, dedicated gamers thought of little else – including visiting Pornhub," the company wrote.

Taking a look at their Google Analytics-provided "affinity" data, the website figures most of its 60 million daily visitors have at least some interest in gaming. Using that data, the company realized that a recent drop in traffic could be attributed to the release of Fallout 4.

"Compared to an average day, we saw a slight 5% increase in traffic among gamers in the early morning hours from 3-4 am. At this point we assume everyone’s download completed and the gaming commenced. Starting at 5am traffic began to drop, down as much as 10% from 7am till noon. In the afternoon traffic returned to normal, but after 6pm it dropped again when we assume that 9-5 workers arrived home and fired up their games. After midnight it seems like everyone finally took a break, and traffic jumped as high at 15% above daily norms."

Pornhub presented a pretty in-depth breakdown of the website's traffic change among gamers after Fallout 4's release. Check out the charts and details below.

"Focusing on a few specific genres, we can see some interesting changes in the hourly graphs. Although shooter fans had the lowest overall change, they did have the highest increase in traffic before (+12%) and after (+25%) the Fallout 4 release. Action Fans and Adventure and Strategy fans followed each other closely throughout the entire day."
