Fallout 4's Far Harbor expansion releases tomorrow, but some lucky folks have already been able to play it due to some closed beta testing Bethesda is doing across all platforms. Of course, each user who has access to the highly-anticipated expansion are under a non-disclosure agreement, but some people just really don't care.
Thanks to some loopholes, a user who got early access to Far Harbor released the entire expansion pack early AND completely free! PC users are allowed to publish their own mods for games like Fallout 4 on all sorts of modding websites, of course, one user took all the files for Far Harbor and uploaded them as a mod for players to download! No big deal, right?
Of course, Bethesda didn't take kindly to at least 800 users downloading their $24.99 expansion pack for free and before release.
“[The mod] was taken down because Bethesda asked us to as it contained copyrighted material that was uploaded without permission from the original creator (in this case, Bethesda),” said Robin Scott, owner of Nexus Mods. “Such actions are a flagrant breach of our well known strict rules.”
Poor Bethesda. It is probably safe to say that Bethesda won't do this closed beta testing strategy again after all the leaks that range from spoilers to fully uploading the expansion.
You can pick up Fallout 4's Far Harbor expansion tomorrow for free if you own the season pass or $24.99 if you don't own the season pass. Bethesda previously boasted about how large this expansion will be in terms of size going as far as to compare it to Oblivion's massive expansion, Shivering Isles. Later this month Bethesda will also release mods for the console versions of Fallout 4.
