Fallout 4 mods will be playable on PC, Xbox One and, eventually, PS4, but not at launch. As Bethesda Marketing VP Pete Hines told IGN, the game’s mod tools are still very early in development.
“Our entire focus is on finishing the game,” Hines said. “Nobody cares about mods if the game sucks. This has always been our philosophy. We [will] shift energy to construction tools, the creation kit, and all of that stuff once the game is done, and we start to figure out what all of that is going to look like.”
Hines added that although mods will one day be available on all platforms, no modding will be possible until well into 2016. Naturally, we can assume that PC will be brought up to speed first. PS4 being the last on the list is another safe bet.
Far-off or not, Fallout 4’s mods have already gotten some traction. Known Fallout 3 modder Zealotlee recently revealed his first planned addition to the game’s archive—the Rail Rifle, a veritable Energy Rifle redux.
