Fallout 76 nets rough launch sales in UK despite many improvements

Gamesindustry.biz reports that the UK launch for Fallout 76 has gone anything but well, with the first multiplayer entry into the Action-RPG series trailing heavily behind the last Fallout 4. The bad launch might be attributed to generally bad reviews and major negative PR on social media.

Fallout 76 entered the sales charts in the UK at the third spot which doesn’t sound bad but Fallout games usually become major hits upon release. As such, sales of Fallout 76 are down a whopping 82% on Fallout 4. True, a multiplayer spin-off is a gamble and expectations were lower compared to a regular entry but the disparity is more than expected.

It’s not the end for Fallout 76 however. As an online service game, the longevity and healthiness of it can improve massively, depending on how Bethesda enhances on the experience in the future. And we are already seeing major updates addressing some of issues players were having during the beta.

The latest patch for Fallout 76 now allows PC players to experience the game at uncapped framerates without breaking the game speed. Bethesda also promises to update the game with a FOV slider and 21:9 ultra-widescreen support. All standards in big PC game releases.

Console players aren’t left out with the new patch. General stability and performance improvements have been implemented, among a smattering of bug fixes. You can read the full patch notes here. In the near future, increased stash limits will also be added.

This is a nice first step towards enticing jaded Fallout fans and in 2019 Fallout 76 will receive new content and game systems. One major criticism of Fallout 76 is a rather empty-feeling world and no doubt such massive changes will take a bit longer.

We enjoyed our early look at Fallout 76 and believe the game to be worth saving with future updates. But with subpar launch reviews and a massive negative wave of videos on YouTube dragging down the image of the game, Bethesda surely has their work cut out for them.
