This game gets so much unwarranted crap and a lot of it is from people who have never played the game. I've said it time and time again, but in no way does Battleborn compare to Overwatch regarding its gameplay. The only things they share are the fact that they are hero-based games with a focus on first-person multiplayer gameplay (the gameplay of which could not be more different).
That said, marketing and balance issues which were actual legitimate criticisms of the game, have caused it to falter. And as such, Battleborn has struggled to keep up its player base, especially on PC, resulting in impossibly long matchmaking times.
It has gotten to the point that some fans on Reddit came up with an idea about two weeks ago to try and get as many people as possible to play the game at once. Thus, Battleborn Day was created. Here's the initial post from the Redditor known as bkndx.
So let's talk about why it didn't succeed at the beginning, Overwatch competition, lackluster marketing, bugs glitches and balancing issues. As time went on the problems shifted to low player base, and a large skill gap, matchmaking.
So the question is how do we bring new players and keep them. Well if we can get an event going for a day where we get as many players online to play as many games as they can, this will solve matchmaking issues and allow everyone to try the game.
As a community of high level elites we should recognize that if we get this going there's going to be a huge influx of newbs. We should be doing our best to not pubstomp and ruin their first impressions of the game so please, no double legendary loadouts. Experiment with new characters and try to keep away from the meta. We will shoot for the second Saturday of November starting at 3:00 est?
Apparently, the folks over at Gearbox noticed and made a post on the official Battleborn Website to promote the event. They said:
We’re so impressed and humbled by your dedication (even ISIC is beyond words). As a thank you to the wonderful Battleborn Reddit folks and to show our love for this community, we’re “flipping switches” to help make this event as epic as possible. Here’s a quick glimpse at what you can expect but be sure to check out tomorrow’s Battleplan for the full details.

As you can see, the event is happening right now across all platforms and will run through tomorrow. If you liked what you played of the game to this point, I implore you to hop on at some point today or tomorrow even if it's just for a round or two. Battleborn is an excellent game worthy of any multiplayer fan's time, and in a world where we whine and complain about developers not doing enough "new" things, Battleborn is an answer to that. And if it fails, it will only serve as proof that new concepts are not worth a developer's or publisher's time, and gamers will share responsibility for that failure.
