Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them films will explore Dumbledore’s gay background

Hopefully it is done tastefully!

We are just under a month away from jumping backing into the wizarding world with Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and J.K. Rowling is already talking about plans for sequels!

Earlier this week, we reported that Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them would become a five film franchise with three films to come out by at least 2020. There are no real details on what the next four films will center around as the source material is just 128 pages! However, Harry Potter creator J.K. Rowling may have detailed one of the subplots or stories of one of the characters in the films.

Since Fantastic Beasts is a prequel to the Harry Potter universe, we will be seeing Dumbledore as a young man. In 2007, right around the time she released the final book in the 7 part book series, she revealed that Hogwarts' own headmaster was gay. A lot of fans in the LGBT community were glad to see Rowling acknowledge the gay community in some way as there's a lack of gay characters in the massive wizard universe.

Dumbledore had feelings for a male character by the name of Gellert Grindelwald who eventually turned evil. The character is briefly seen in Azkaban when Voldemort goes to find the location of the Elder Wand in Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 1. The two eventually had a falling out in 1945 and had a three hour long battle, ending with Albus Dumbledore winning and gaining power over the Elder Wand.

Rowling has revealed that Dumbledore's backstory and gay lifestyle will be explored in the five film franchise, but it's unclear to what extent. It wouldn't be surprising if we saw the duel between Dumbledore and Grindelwald in one of the final films of the series as a big climactic battle to send the series off.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will release on November 18th, 2016.
