Far Cry 6 gets delayed; Will release before March 2022

Ubisoft has announced that they have delayed Far Cry 6. The new entry in the first-person franchise was slated for a February 2021 release but will move to an unspecified date. Ubisoft has given us a release window, though.

Far Cry 6 will now release between April 2021 and March 2022, aka their 2021-2022 fiscal year. Rainbow Six spin-off, Rainbow Six Quarantine, has also been delayed into this window. That’s a pretty broad window but also gives them room to take their time. Yves Guillemot was clear they were open to delaying the game back in May.

“It notably reflects the possibility that we decide to postpone the release of a AAA title to 2021-22, if it ensures to maximize the long-term potential of our line-up,” he said earlier this year (via Engadget).

Ubisoft noted that they can basically delay games like Far Cry 6 without having to worry about losing money. Since people are spending more time at home, more people are playing games. Ubisoft has seen a massive uptick in live-service titles such as Rainbow Six. Older titles such as Assassin’s Creed have also proven to be selling well as people visit games they may have missed.

More time in the oven should be good as some critics, such as myself, have been less than receptive to Watch Dogs: Legion. The brand-new Ubisoft title is their first AAA title in the fall line-up and it doesn’t have strong legs. We gave the game a 6/10 and criticized the story, mechanics, and lack of polish.

“While it has its moments, Watch Dogs: Legion doesn’t have enough to compete with other major fall titles. The gameplay is too repetitive and too restrictive to allow for anything tremendously exciting over a long period of time. It’s a game that shows all of its tricks within the first few hours and leaves you with nothing but jank for the remainder of your playthrough,” reads our review.

We don’t currently know much about Far Cry 6 at the moment. The game will revolve around the player attempting to overthrow the dictator of a Carribean country. Breaking Bad’sGiancarlo Esposito will play the intimidating dictator, Antón Castillo.

Far Cry 6 will release on Xbox Series X, Xbox One, PS4, PS5, and PC in the future.
