Well that didn't take long. Shortly after reporting on the rumor, Microsoft's Major Nelson has officially revealed February's two free Games with Gold. Xbox LIVE Gold members will be treated to Dead Island and Toy Soldiers: Cold War on Xbox 360.
First up will be Dead Island on February 1st, followed by Toy Soldiers: Cold War on February 16th. Both games are decently valued at $19.99 and $14.99, respectively, but if there's one thing to complain about it's relevancy; both titles were first released in 2011. Microsoft has said in the past that their focus with Games with Gold is "offering classic games back to the user." These games are older, but are they necessarily "classics"?
Earlier this month, Microsoft's Phil Spencer said he "feels good" about the Games with Gold offerings for the first half of 2014. January's offerings were a step in the right direction with Sleeping Dogs and Lara Croft and the Guardian of the Light, but I think we took a step backward in February. It's certainly not even close to the value Sony is offering for PS Plus in February.
Unfortunately, there are still no Xbox One games being offered for free.
What do you think of February's free games?
