Well, the results are in and FIFA 13 is off to a record-smashing start. EA announced today that FIFA 13 has sold over 4.5 million copies worldwide in just five days, making it the biggest launch of 2012 and the biggest sports video game launch of all-time. It was the number one selling game in at least 40 countries around the world.
FIFA 13 found success in many key countries, particularly in the United Kingdom where it sold more than 1.23 million copies in just the first 48 hours. It's only the second game franchise ever to sell more than one million units in the UK within just one day.
“FIFA 13 is a critical and commercial success unprecedented in sports entertainment,” said EA Vice President Andrew Wilson. “Every minute of every day millions of fans around the world are experiencing what the critics have already said — FIFA 13 is the biggest and best sports game we have ever created.”
In addition to its record-setting sales numbers, fans are also setting gameplay records. September 30, 2012 was the "busiest day for online gaming for a single title in EA history", the company reported, with 800,000 fans playing FIFA 13 simultaneously. More than 66 million online game sessions have already been played on FIFA 13, representing 600 million minutes of online play.
FIFA 13 is available for PS3 with PlayStation Move support, Xbox 360 with Kinect, PS Vita, Nintendo Wii, PS2, Nintendo 3DS, and PSP. On November 18 it will release alongside the Wii U console. It scored an impressive 8/10 here on GameZone.
