While many game developers are still figuring out the perfect way to incorporate the Wii U's innovative GamePad controller, it looks like EA Sports seems to have it all worked out with FIFA 13.
ONM not only unveiled FIFA 13 for the Wii U, but also detailed exactly how Nintendo's touchscreen tablet controller will function with the game.
The most notable feature is Touch Screen Shooting which allows you to shake the GamePad (or pressing L3, the left analog stick) when getting ready to score. This will bring up an image of the goal on the screen and allow you to tap on the position you want to place your shot on the goal allowing for more accurate and realistic shots than ever before.
In addition, you will be able to take your free kicks using the GamePad. Rather than tapping on the screen to place the kick, you look through the screen to aim the ball before putting curve on it and shooting. This gives you the perspective of the player and lets you move the GamePad around to see where your players are positioned.
The game also allows for touchscreen tackling and passing as well. While switching players in other games is generally done automatically, touchscreen tackling lets you switch to defenders by tapping them on the Wii U GamePad's touchscreen. You can then tap on the attacking player to either man mark him or tackle him. Touchscreen passing will work in similar fashion.
The GamePad's touchscreen isn't only good for controlling players, but also for analyzing stats and managing the team. The GamePad will display match stats and allow you to adjust tactics on the screen when playing as the manager. You will also be able to make half-time team talks to motivate key payers.
During the match you can tap on any player in your team to get a full statistical breakdown of their performance. You can also see where shots are being taken from to help you decide who to man mark.
According to the same reports, FIFA 13 Wii U producer Matt Prior claimed the game will look best on Nintendo's new console citing "key graphical improvements".
"It's on a par with 360 and PS3 and we were even able to make some key graphical improvements," said Prior. "We focused on areas that would have the most impact on the game.".
FIFA 13 has no release date for the Wii U, but it is set to arrive on all other platforms on September 28.
