Microsoft has done a great job with their backwards compatibility initiative, but one area that could stand to be improved upon is the number of sports titles that could be made available. That might be about to change as one FIFA fan on Reddit just happened to fire up their old copy of FIFA Street on Xbox 360 and noticed that the game's servers were live again.
Here's the post from the Redditor known as Cryaotix:
What are the chances, right? Naturally, this immediately sparked speculation in the threads that the game might be in line for backwards compatibility support. The theory certainly makes sense. Sports games are easily the most disposable in the industry by virtue of their yearly incarnations and roster updates, so main entries seem unlikely. That said, a spin-off, such as Street, which targets a far more casual crowd, would be more widely appealing. And reactivating the game's servers would be a way to gauge interest for EA to commit the resources to bring the game back into the mainstream.
FIFA Street was originally a spin-off series on the PS2 and original Xbox, following in the footsteps of the classic NBA Street. FIFA Street never reached the heights of the NBA iteration, but it was re-branded and brought back on the Xbox 360 and PS3 back in 2012. We loved FIFA Street when we reviewed it, so it's nice to see the game potentially get a second shot.
