Filming on the new Ghostbusters reboot officially begins today, according to the film's director. Taking to Twitter yesterday, director Paul Feig posted a photo of himself playing with goopy green slime, adding the caption "And … action! #slimetimestartstomorrow."
The Ghostbusters reboot, which features a new all-female cast, has a target release date of July 22, 2016. The new cast includes Bridesmaids actresses Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig, along with two SNL cast members Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon. Just last week it was revelaed that Chris Hemsworth (Avengers, Thor) will play "the receptionist" — a role made famous by Annie Potts as Janine Melnitz.
The new Ghostbusters has been under some heavy criticism — mostly by fans of the originall — since it was first announced. It's mostly fear stemming from the idea that an all-female cast could too closely resemble the feel of another Bridesmaids movie, with a focus on slapstick comedy instead of the witty, intelligent humor that made the original Ghostbusters so good. I, too, am nervous for the film, but not because it'll feature all female Ghostbusters; I just worry that classic humor from the 1980s can no longer be replicated today. Just look at the new Vacation movie.
