Final Fantast 7 remake will change combat, but remain ‘recognizable’

Sony dropped the mic during their E3 2015 press conference when it was revealed that Square Enix's Final Fantasy 7 was getting a remake on the PlayStation 4. This announcement hit a home run in the Final Fantasy community, with fan reactions falling on the 'I'm so excited I'm going to cry' end of the spectrum.

Shortly afterward, game director Tetsuya Nomura sat down to reveal more information about the game: 1) Cloud could still cross-dress; 2) the game's combat system will be reworked into something "more realistic." At the time, we weren't quite sure what Nomura meant, but speaking to the Official PlayStation Magazine, the game director clarified a few things.

Nomura is well-practiced in the art of clarifying things while maintaining a vague stance it would seem, but he did say that the changes wouldn't be so dramatic that Final Fantasy 7 was unrecognizable.

"We want to clarify: We’re not going to be changing it into a shooter or something like that. We are going to be bringing dramatic changes, but we want to make sure it’s still recognizable."

How the classic turn-based combat system will be altered into a realistic combat system remains a mystery.
