Final Fantasy 12 remake dismissed in new statement

But not axed outright

Just two days ago, Final Fantasy 12 composer Hitoshi Sakimoto let slip an alleged “remake” of the title. Final Fantasy 7’s impending remake helped put air in the rumor’s sails, but Square Enix has now officially addressed the “error” in announcement, swiftly snatching that air away.

“The term ‘remake’ was used in error during one of the announcements that took place from the stage during the [recent Pittsburgh Final Fantasy] concert,” Producer and Music Director Arnie Roth wrote on the Distant Worlds Facebook page. “We sincerely regret any confusion this has caused.”

Roth’s comments are a serious blow to the likelihood of a Final Fantasy 12 remake, but not necessarily a death sentence. Squint your eyes and tighten your optimism cap and you could interpret the error in announcement as an error in timing. A remake of the game’s soundtrack is another, more believable possibility.
