Reviews are in and Final Fantasy 15 is doing great! We know that DLC is coming for the Square Enix blockbuster, but until now, we haven't had any specifics.
We know that additional playable characters will be coming, story expansion for the main party members, and even an online multiplayer expansion is in the works where players can hopefully make their own avatars. But the information released today names the first DLC pack Episode Gladiolus, where it sees the party member Gladio face a classic Final Fantasy villain: Gilgamesh.
“The player confronts an enemy called Gilgamesh, who can only be seen in Episode Gladio,” Haruyoshi Sawatari, FF15 DLC Producer tells VG247. In the main storyline, there is a gap in time where Gladio leaves the party and returns with a scar. When asked, he states that he had to deal with some "personal business." This DLC seems to be the reason why.
For those unaware, Gilgamesh, while being a historical/mythological legend in real life, is also a recurring antagonist in the Final Fantasy series. He first appears in Final Fantasy 5 as a sword collecting thief that ends up taking a much larger role as it plays out. he also appears in 8, 9, 11, 12, and 14, not to mention a number of spin-off games and easter eggs. Similar to the name Cid, Gilgamesh appears in most Final Fantasy titles.
He takes many forms in his various incarnations, but his look in Final Fantasy 15 is very much an homage to his classic Final Fantasy 5 appearance. In Episode Gladiolus, not only is there a story associated with Gilgamesh, but also new areas for the DLC. This DLC is available on both PS4 and Xbox One, as well as the season pass which will include all of the planned DLC in the future.
