Final Fantasy 15: The Best Console Launch Month in Franchise History

Breaking new records for the seasoned JRPG franchise

Call of Duty has topped the December charts for the ninth year in a row, as well as the 2016 charts overall, but nobody is really surprised by that. However, Final Fantasy XV has broken new records for the Final Fantasy franchise.

According to Games Industry, Final Fantasy XV  was the best-selling game for the PlayStation 4 in December and was also the second place for best-selling title overall for December. The best news to come from this article was the fact that Final Fantasy XV is the best-selling game in the franchise, selling 19% more physical copies than Final Fantasy XIII.

Considering Final Fantasy XIII was met with mixed reviews that only got worse as more tie-ins were made, Final Fantasy XV being such a big success is a little surprising. The game itself experienced good reviews, and even though their Japanese sales were less than expected, it still manages to stay on top.
