As usual with Final Fantasy 7, Square Enix might have gotten everyone a little too excited by announcing a Final Fantasy 6 "port" for iOS and Android. Surely that means the fan-favorite role-playing game starring Cloud is next, right?
Not exactly.
"Unfortunately, it's not that it's not impossible for us to develop Final Fantasy 7 for mobile," producer Takashi Tokita told Shacknews. "It's that currently, space will be an issue. Phones won't be able to contain the space it takes. It's over a gigabyte. People are probably going to have to wait a few years."
Final Fantasy 7 is big. It needed three discs when it debuted on the PlayStation (and four on PC), and the digital PC rerelease consumes 3GB of hard drive space. Apple's limit is 2GB for apps.
