Sony blew away fans with a specific reveal during their E3 2015 press conference, Final Fantasy 7 is officially coming to the PlayStation 4. The game will not be a straight port of the original, but will be a full remake — that means changes.
Details from game director Tetsuya Nomura following the game's reveal assured fans that Cloud will still be able to cross-dress (in that one mission), will not feature new characters, will not simply feature better graphics, but will feature a new combat system.
Nomura couldn't share any more details on what type of combat mechanic would be used, but he did specify that they were "changing it to a more realistic system".
Speaking with Famitsu (via Siliconera), game producer Yoshinori Kitase revealed that FF7 was coming along nicely, but the combat system was a bit of an issue.
“We’re beginning to see its visual direction… On the other hand, we’re going through trial and error as far as its battle system goes,” said Kitase. “Since there’s a possibility that the command battle system of the old days might not work today, we’re thinking hard about what kind of direction we can take it." It doesn't seem like an easy task to turn away from the Turn-Based combat system and move into the vague "realistic system." Combat tends to be a consistent theme in the game, so, it would be great if they figured it out.
Without combat being figured out, just how far can they be in the game's development (they could get the aesthetics and voices done)?
“Please don’t ask us how far along we are in its development,” Kitase said with a laugh.
