The Final Fantasy’s 30th Anniversary Exhibition brought fans a ton of content for Final Fantasy, as well as looks at new screenshots for upcoming games and a surprise appearance from director Tetsuya Nomura.
According to event attendees, the new screenshots for Final Fantasy 7 Remake contained a bit of a surprise. The images revealed that Cloud had undergone some design changes for the upcoming remake.
The screenshots have not been released online, as they were exclusive to event-goers, however, details from the event have revealed details on the design. Cloud has been detailed as having a more “natural” look.
According to development leader Naoki Hamaguchi, Cloud’s new design was said to have been approved by director Tetsuya Nomura. Director Nomura added that the design is “the closest one to the original [Cloud design] up until now.”
It was also mentioned that Cloud’s new appearance doesn’t remove the fact that he’s still a ‘dork’. Nomura and Hamaguchi stated “while Cloud may look this way, he was a dork. I believe those of you who played the original would understand what I mean by saying he’s a dorky character.”
Final Fantasy 7 Remake has no release date. Square Enix has set the game’s release to some point beyond Fiscal Year 2018.
