After Final Fantasy 7 Remake received a new trailer this past weekend at The PlayStation Experience, players were left wondering on some other details about previously mentioned aspects of the game. It turns out that the battle system has changed and the game is in fact too big for a single release. As a result, Final Fantasy 7 Remake will be released episodically.
In an interview with Dengaki Online and Gematsu this past weekend, the game's Producer Yoshinoro Kitase and Director Tetsuya Nomura commented on some of the game's details.
Kitase: “The idea that a remake of Final Fantasy VII would not fit into a single release was there from the very beginning. We still can’t share more information about its multiple parts, but please look forward to future announcements.”
Nomura: “If we dedicated our time to a single release, parts of it would become summarized. We’d have to cut some parts, and additional parts would come in few, so rather than remake the game as a full volume, we decided to do multiple parts.”
Now, what's interesting about this is with the advancement of technology in both the PS4 and Xbox One and other games the likes of Just Cause and The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt with their massive size, that Final Fantasy 7 Remake can't be included in a single game. After all, it is a remake. How much can Square Enix change about the game to make it so big where it won't fit on a single disc before it ceases to be the Final Fantasy 7 fans have been asking for?
In addition to the multiple part release, the battle system has also been changed. The Remake will now feature an active battle system rather than the classic turn based system fans fell in love with.
We reached out to Square Enix for clarification but don't expect to hear much with the tight lipped info prior to the release date announcement this March.
