Final Fantasy 7 Remake will now be developed internally

For years, fans had been begging Square Enix to do a full blown remake of the classic JRPG, Final Fantasy VII. The cries were heard and in 2015 they announced the remake was in development. Since then, fans have been wondering when it’ll actually release.

Some new developments with the making of the game have concerned fans but Square Enix is undergoing a major change to make sure the game meets the quality they’re striving for. The studio is eliminating all outside help and will be developing Final Fantasy VII internally. Haoki Hamguchi (project lead on FFVII Remake) spoke about the change on a livestream.

“I’ve taken charge on the development side for Final Fantasy VII Remake,” Hamaguchi said during a livestream for Mobius Final Fantasy, for which he is the project lead. “As for the whole story, (it’s a sensitive topic, but) until now, development was moving forward with external cooperation, but the company has decided to shift to an internal setup, including mass production and quality, because we want to control everything, including quality, on a stable schedule. (I won’t be leaving Mobius Final Fantasy.)”

Final Fantasy VII Remake is set to release on PlayStation 4 in the next three years and it is currently unclear if it’ll make its way to other platforms.
