Final Fantasy VII Remake gets surprise demo on PlayStation Store

Final Fantasy VII Remake is finally almost here after many years of waiting. After its 2015 reveal, many have been craving this from the ground-up remake for a hot minute and to make the wait a bit easier, Square Enix has released a free demo on PS4.

In the middle of the night, Square tweeted that fans can download the Final Fantasy VII Remake demo right now on the PlayStation Store. The game was originally slated to release on March 3rd, 2020 but was recently delayed to April so it appears Square is trying to make sure we still get a taste of the action on its original release date.

The Final Fantasy VII Remake demo includes the first chapter of the game which sees Cloud and the Avalanche group infiltrating the Mako Reactor 1. The store description notes that your progress will NOT carry over into the final game so if you think you can hold out and don’t want to replay the first chapter again, it may not hurt to skip this demo.

The playable demo throws you right into the action and blends the gameplay of Final Fantasy XV with the world, characters, and story of the iconic RPG that is Final Fantasy VII. The PlayStation Store description for the demo reads as follows:

“FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE is a bold reimagining of the original FINAL FANTASY VII, originally released in 1997 for the PlayStation®, developed under the guidance of the original key developers.

This grand adventure filled with memorable characters and crafted with cutting edge technology was an instant worldwide hit, and now it is reborn for a new era.

With a mix of traditional command-based combat and real-time action, fans can explore the world of FINAL FANTASY VII, recreated with today’s technology.”

Players who download the demo before May 11th, 2020 will also get a free PS4 theme that will be available after April 10th, 2020.

Final Fantasy VII Remake will release on April 10th, 2020 exclusively on PS4. The game will come to other platforms at a later date.
