(SPOILER ALERT) The end of Final Fantasy XIII-2 hangs on those three little words that I'm sure we all love to see at the end of a game, movie or whatever it may be. "To be continued" can be seen at the end of Final Fantasy XIII-2, and director of Final Fantasy XIII-2, Motomu Toriyama, was asked about the continuation of the series to Final Fantasy XIII-3 at Taipei Game Show 2012.
When reading the "To be continued" at the end of the game, it is not a stretch to understand why gamers jump to yet another sequel. However, it doesn't look like Final Fantasy XIII-3 is anywhere in Toriyama's plan as of yet. Upon being asked about the cliffhanger phrase at the end of his game, he said there were a number of reasons the phrase was added into the game's ending. The first reason has to do with the multiple endings due to the time Paradox endings and different interpretations of time.
Another reason Toriyama touched on was the downloadable content. We have already reported on the various episodes such as a Lightning episode explaining more of a back-story of her character and situation in Final Fantasy XIII-2. Toriyama mentioned the "To be continued" was used to explain the continuation of the Final Fantasy XIII-2 story through DLC that is still being developed for the title.
So, for now, it looks as if there are no plans to make the first direct double sequel to a Final Fantasy game, but instead to explain the continuation of the story through the different endings and DLC.
