Final Fantasy XIV Gets a Live Action series in an Interesting way

Based on a true story of Final Fantasy 14 players.

Square Enix is making a live action drama based on something that actually happened in Final Fantasy XIV. No, it's not actually something in-game, but rather, something that happened to two players of the game.

Titled "Final Fantasy XIV Daddy of Light", the show will broadcast on MBS/TBS in Japan this April. The drama was inspired by the story of a father and son whose relationship changes due to their interactions within Final Fantasy XIV. The show will focus on what it's like participating in the Final Fantasy world from the outside, though the game is prominently featured as well.

The interesting thing is that this is based on a true story. The original blog post tells a real-life story of a father and son that have issues communicating. The son plays the MMO himself and wants to participate in a friend referral bonus system, so her gets his father to join the game after his wife buys him a PS4 for his birthday. His son helps him create a character and he thinks that's the end of that. However, he joins him in-game and helps him throughout his adventure. The son actually has no idea that it's his dad the whole time. Instead, he thinks he's just some good online friend.

The new drama releases next to the 30th anniversary of the Final Fantasy series. It will feature Japanese actors Yudai Chiba and Ren Oosugi.
