Final Fantasy XV 2D side-scrolling spinoff, A King’s Tale will be free to play next month

Pre-order exclusives hardly ever stay exclusive, and for those with a little patience, waiting can certainly pay off. Gamers who pre-ordered Final Fantasy XV from GameStop were treated to a little 2-D side-scrolling beat 'em up called A King's Tale: Final Fantasy XV, which took place 30 years before the events of the game and cast players in the role of Regis Lucis Caelum AKA Noctis' dad. Today, it was announced that the pre-order bonus will no longer be exclusive starting on March 1st, as all PS4 and Xbox One players will be able to download the game for free.

The gameplay is about as straightforward as there is for these types of games, as players face off against hordes of monsters through several stages that they need to defeat, and can chain up fancy combos to make things a little more flashy and effective.

In other news, Final Fantasy XV just released it's PS4 Pro patch today, and although it improves a lot of things, it doesn't manage to hit 60 FPS unless (for some reason) you keep the camera aimed at the floor.
