Final Fantasy XV Director: Nintendo Switch is a “Dream Machine”; Would Love to Take it Further

Ever since Nintendo revealed the Switch to the public, we've heard countless developers praise the machine. Currently, there are 60 third-party developers making games for the Nintendo Switch. On top of that, other big names are talking about the console as if they want a piece of it as well. Most recently, Bioware talked about a wishful Switch version of Mass Effect: Andromeda.

But the team behind Final Fantasy XV at Square Enix have given their input many times and it seems like they're ready to jump in. In an interview with Polygon, Final Fantasy XV director Hajime Tabata gave high praise to the Nintendo Switch, calling it a dream machine.

"Given my track record… I’ve worked on handheld titles, but I’ve also worked on console games. So the fact that Switch is both at the same time is really fascinating to me. I’m really interested in coming up with ideas and how to capitalize on that technology and how to create the best experience possible on the technology. But I’m not quite sure that I have it yet."

He goes on to describe a dream scenario on the Nintendo Switch. Not just as a gameplay device, but as a device that is highly versatile, which the Switch is proving to be with every bit of new information.

"You have your Switch sitting in front of the television and you’re playing on the big screen and then you take it out, put it down on the table. It becomes a monitor. You take out the two Joy-Cons, and you play with a friend … it doesn’t stop there, because in my mind, it would be really perfect if you could then take this new monitor and use it like a tablet, for example, and play different apps on it like you would on your iPhone or your Android. So basically, it’s accomplishing three tasks in one machine. It’s kind of like the dream machine."

While Tabata isn't working on a Switch title at this time, his excitement for it, along with the many staff members of Square Enix, is definitely a good sign for things to come. They've reportedly already tossed around ideas on how to take advantage of the Switch's unique features.

The Nintendo Switch launches March 3 in all regions. You can see the official unboxing here!
