After 10 years in development, Final Fantasy XV finally released in November 2016. Games aren't cheap to make and typically don't take a decade to make, so it's safe to assume that Final Fantasy XV cost Square Enix an absurd amount of money. How much exactly? Well, we don't have exact numbers because Square doesn't release that info but we do know the game made back all of its money on release day!
DualShockers reported today that game director Hajime Tabata told them FFXV made back all of its development costs within 24 hours of being released which is pretty damn good. A few months back, it was revealed that the game had shipped five million copies on release day (also very good) and six million by January 2017.
Of course, shipped doesn't mean those are all the copies that made it into the hands of consumers. It's just all the copies that went out to stores across the world. The five million also includes digital sales of the game, but we don't know where in that five million copies that they broke even.
Regardless, it's a great achievement that the game managed to become successful so quickly! With free and paid updates coming throughout 2017, it's safe to say Final Fantasy XV will continue to sell well!
