Final Fantasy XV ships over 6 million copies

Will it be a success?

Final Fantasy XV may have taken a decade to release, but it could soon prove to be a success for Square Enix. Back in November, Square revealed the game shipped 5 million retail copies within the first day of release which is really good but it may not be enough. Square Enix has said they'd really like to hit 10 million copies, and Square could potentially get there.

Square Enix revealed today that they shipped 6 million copies of the game, an additional million from the release date. This doesn't mean 6 million copies have been sold to consumers, but rather the number of copies that have reached store shelves. This doesn't count digital sales, so it is entirely possible it has hit 6 million copies sold but we have no idea.

Since Square Enix released the game on one of the last days of November, it is entirely possible they could hit their goal by the end of 2017 if they continue to ship a million copies a month like this. Square promises regular updates, both free and premium, which could help keep the game alive. Square Enix could also boost sales by porting a "complete edition" on PC when all of the DLC has released. We'll just have to wait and see, though.

Square Enix detailed some of the upcoming content which you can read below.

"Final Fantasy XV provides additional content and associated products to expand and enhance players’ experiences, starting with the free game update, Holiday Pack (Free Version) and premium Holiday Pack+ DLC which are now available for download. Those who download the Holiday Pack (Free Version) or Holiday Pack+ will also gain access to the “Moogle Chocobo Carnival,” a special in-game event that brings an exciting festival to the whole city of Altissia, starting on Tuesday, January 24th for a limited time.

To allow players a deeper enjoyment of Final Fantasy XV, regular updates enhancing the main game will be coming soon, such as premium DLC content that will provide players additional gameplay experiences."
