Good news, RPG fans! Another retro classic is making its triumphant return in the digital download space. The ESRB has confirmed that Final Fantasy V is coming to the North American PlayStation Network.
Final Fantasy V recently popped up on the rating board’s page, and you can bet this is a major reveal. The game had previously been released in Japan and Europe, and gamers were wondering when the game would appear on Sony’s online service outside of those two regions. Thankfully, Square Enix is showing North American RPG enthusiasts some love, as well.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with Final Fantasy V, it’s pretty much an awesome RPG that was released on the Super Famicom back in 1992. It was later remade for the PlayStation and Game Boy Advance, but we haven’t seen a faithful port of the original version for the digital market. Unless you live in Japan, the Wii’s Virtual Console is also missing this memorable game.
It’s great that the original version of Final Fantasy V will see a proper release in North America. It was about time, wasn’t it? The game will be rated T for Teen due to mild fantasy violence and partial nudity. No word yet on when the game will launch, so if you can’t stand the wait and haven’t played the Game Boy Advance version, find a copy of that somewhere and indulge in this awesome Square Enix RPG in portable form.
