While Square may have scrapped plans to produce downloadable content for their latest entry in the Final Fantasy franchise, that hasn’t stopped the two creative figures behind the game from speculating on potential future plans.
According to an interview that was recently released in Final Fantasy XIII Ultimania Omega (via FF Reunion), Kitase stated that he wants to do something that would expand upon the Fabula Nova Crystalis mythos, showing things that wouldn’t make it into the other two upcoming compilation titles, Final Fantasy Agito XIII and Versus XIII. “I’d like to at some point make a story where Lightning ends up happy.” Toriyama added to the interview, hoping for a positive fan reaction.
It was also revealed that Square had originally planned to make an area called ‘the Seventh Ark’ in XIII that would have offered quest-like play with free battles. In the end, they decided not to go through with it because of the discrepancies between the Playstation 3’s hardware and Xbox 360’s.
