We are exactly two months away from Iron Fist debuting on Netflix this March and we are starting to find out more about Danny Rand's story and how it's tied into The Defenders.
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly recently, actor Finn Jones elaborated on how his character, Danny Rand, would grow throughout the season. Iron Fist is the story of Danny Rand who was raised by Monks and assumed dead by his family. He becomes the Immortal Iron Fist and returns to his home where he is surprisingly shunned by his family. Jones indicated that the end of Iron Fist is like the halfway point in Danny's journey with The Defenders completing it.
“Iron Fist is like Danny in his adolescence, and The Defenders is like Danny taking responsibility and moving forward with his purpose. He’s craving desperately for family, for help, for guidance, for people to learn from, and for a team [in The Defenders]. But because of what happens in Iron Fist, he’s very untrusting. It’s really his way or no way. I see it as kind of this journey where Iron Fist and The Defenders is like the complete first season of Danny’s journey.”
At NYCC last October, we were in attendance where they showed some clips of Danny returning to his family and can vouch for how brutal they are. His friend especially, Jessica Stroup (90210) who plays Joy Meachum, disavows him right to his face. It will be an interesting conclusion, as Danny is the only one who really knows what's going on in The Defenders and continues to drive them forward.
No date has been set for The Defenders premiere yet, but Iron Fist premieres on Netflix on March 17th, 2017 with 13 episodes. Sigourney Weaver will play the villain, a new character named Alexandra.
