Fire Emblem Fates New Nintendo 3DS XL announced

Nintendo provided a slew of new details regarding upcoming RPGs for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems, and one of the new reveals was a Fire Emblem Fates Edition New Nintendo 3DS XL system.

Launching February 19th, the $199.99 special edition system features gorgeous art inspired by the game on the front of the hardware. Oddly enogh, neither of the two versions — Birthright or Conquest — are included.

In Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright, players battle a corrupted king. And inFire Emblem Fates: Conquest, a misguided kingdom must be changed from within. You can choose to purchase either game for $39.99, and after completing Chapter 6, you will have the option to download the other version of the game for $19.99. A third story, Fire Emblem Fates: Revelation will be available as DLC on March 10th for $19.99 for players that own both main games. It features the game's main character choosing neither the Conquest nor Birthright path in the story.

It's a pretty needlessly complicated release process, so Nintendo is also offering a special edition that will include all three games on a single card, plus an artbook and a Nintendo 3DS XL pouch for $79.99.

Additional maps will be released as DLC on a regular basis, with the first map launch on February 19th. You'll be able to purchase these maps individually or as part of Map Pack 1 for $17.99, which provides an overall discount.

Fire Emblem Fates is set for release on February 19th.
