Last week Ryan Reynolds teased the Deadpool mask. This week we find out who Deadpool's leading lady will be in the film, and we can say she's no stranger to love.
Morena Baccarin, the very woman who played the high end courtesan — known as Companion — in Firefly, will be playing the lead female role and love interest of Ryan Reynolds in Deadpool.
The story, directed by Tim Miller has the been somewhat revealed by the Hollywood Reporter:
The action-adventure project, which stars Ryan Reynolds is an assassin who undergoes a procedure to cure his cancer that ends up leaving him twisted and scarred but also imbued with superpowers.
Interestingly enough, the origin story for Wade Wilson (AKA Deadpool) is that he is an assassin that is very familiar with plastic surgery — every time he fails a mission he uses it to create a new identity. Wilson falls in love with a prostitute and subsequently leaves her once he discovers that he is terminally ill with cancer.
His only hope to cure his cancer is in Canada as a test subject in Department K, a special weapons development branch of the Canadian government. Department K takes the healing power from Wolverine and gives it to Wilson (as well as powers from other mutants), which temporarily stops his cancer's development.
However vague the the story is from the Hollywood Reporter, it echoes Deadpool's origin's story. How close the two will be is something yet to be seen.
