First 12 minutes of Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV is now available online

Final Fantasy XV has been delayed, but Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV, the CGI movie that fleshes out the world and the events that set the game's story in motion, is still on schedule. The movie will start playing in select theaters on August 19. Digital release follows on August 30, with a Blu-ray coming on October 4.

After several trailers, the most recent coming from SDCC2016, fans can now watch the first twelve minutes on Youtube. It's a nice move that seems to show Square Enix has faith in the film, and early critic responses seem to reflect that.

While the gorgeous CGI and Hollywood casting may conjure up memories of Final Fantasy: Spirits Within, Kingsglaive's early reviews are mostly positive. That's more than can be said for its predecessor. Kingsglaive is in a special position: The movie is tied to the story of a mainline entry to the franchise, drawing on familiar Final Fantasy elements. However, Kingsglaive comes before Final Fantasy XV, meaning movie goers don't need to play the game to understand what's happening.
