First gameplay trailer for Blair Witch takes you on a scary trip through the woods

Only you and your canine companion

Bloober Team has released a brand-new trailer for their upcoming first-person horror game Blair Witch. The adventure-horror title is the newest game adaptation from the iconic horror movie franchise which started the found-footage movie genre in the late 1990s. Watch the trailer here!

The Blair Witch movies, especially the first one from 1999, were highly influential horror movies, which ushered an entire new way of shooting films, and not only in the horror genre. The found-footage style of pseudo-self-shot films are still present to this day, two decades after the first Blair Witch Project movie hit cinemas all over the globe.

Yet, despite being so popular in the movie format, only one game adaptation ever appeared in the year 2000 with the Blair Witch Volume Duology. Exclusively released for the PC, it’s quite natural that these third-person horror-adventure games were quickly forgotten, or didn’t reach a notable audience in the first place.

This E3, Bloober Team announced their take on the horror franchise simply titled Blair Witch during the Xbox E3 press conference. Developed as a multi-platform title for the PC and Xbox One, and presented to the world on one of the largest gaming stages, this game has all the ingredients to become popular. While the E3 trailer was atmospheric and succeeded in setting the spooky tone, today’s new gameplay trailer gives us a much appreciated first look at the game in action.

There’s more good news for fans of psychological horror as the developer behind the game are the experienced folks behind the two Layers of Fear games, who have proven they are experts at creating games in the genre.

Blair Witch is set to come out August 30th on PC via Steam and GOG and for the Xbox One. You can pre-order the game for Xbox One for just $29.99.
